Hunterdon County, New Jersey Kids Activities

Hunterdon County, New Jersey, lies on the western side of the state, north of the state capital, Trenton. The rural area's citizens enjoy the scenery of the river and plenty of county parks. The county hosts a family-friendly environment in a natural setting, offering plenty of activities for kids. Children can do things that promote education, physical fitness, the fine arts and basic family fun.
  1. Parks

    • Hunterdon County parks host activities such as canoeing, hiking and horseback riding. The Hunterdon Arboretum is home to several nature trails and self-guided gentle walks appropriate for children. Several gardens call the arboretum home. The arboretum maintains these gardens for educational purposes.

    Education

    • There are seven Hunterdon County library branches, offering children's programs, book clubs and a variety of children's books. In addition to hosting programs for homework and story times, the libraries offer several games and toys to play with on-site or to check out. The Hunterdon Parks Department offers art classes for children of all ages, specializing in color recognition and basic form. The parks department also offers nature and camping programs.

The YMCA offers after-school and before-school programs that teach children healthy lifestyles and the importance of physical fitness while having fun.
