Wildwood in southern New Jersey is a popular summer resort that offers a wide variety of water sports and leisure activities. Annual boat racing events are organized by several agencies at Wildwood. The Hydrofest is an annual boating event that draws huge crowds at Wildwood Crest. This event started in 2000 and it features inboard powered hydroplanes and flat-bottom racing boats, with prizes and trophies on offer. Kayaking is for the adventurous and sporty vacationer who can propel the kayak in the ocean. A kayak is a small boat for one or two people or even a small team who can propel the boat together.

    Boardwalk

    • Wildwood has a well-established boardwalk that is 38 blocks (2 miles) long. The boardwalk is home to amusement parks, restaurants, piers and water parks. The boardwalk has family rides, arcade games and gigantic roller coasters. You can go for a long walk, a jog or a long ride on a rented bicycle here. In the holiday season, this boardwalk comes alive with dazzling neon lights, a huge variety of delicacies and souvenir shops. The Sightseer Tram Car offers a ride from one end of the boardwalk to the other.

    • Blue crabs are found in plenty in this area of New Jersey and many people enjoy fishing for blue crabs at Wildwood. The blue crab has sweet meat and it is a greatly prized delicacy. Crabbing gear, such as a dip net for scooping up the crabs and a basket for storing them, is necessary. You may not need a boat to trap blue crabs, as it is possible to catch them from a public bridge or dock. You will find many crabbers at Wildwood and it is easy to get the hang of this sport with a little practice.
