What Inventions Has Pakistan Created?

Pakistan is well-known for its ancient culture, cricket and beautiful landscapes, but it is not so well-known for its inventions. The country established the Intellectual Property Organisation in 2005, in part to put Pakistan on the "intellectual property map of the world." As one of the world's oldest civilizations, Pakistan can lay claim to ingenuity.
  1. Neolithic Dentistry

    • The first record of dentistry comes from ancient Pakistan.

Evidence of the world's first dental practitioner was found in an ancient cemetery in Pakistan when researchers found molars with precise drill marks that were consistent with tooth repair. The flint drill was invented about 9,000 years ago; it would have created intense heat and pain.

    Particle Theory

    • Dr. Abdus Salam's work in subatomic theory earned the first Nobel Peace Prize for Pakistan, in 1979. He invented the theory of weak and electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles that predict weak neutral currents. As a brilliant physicist and mathematician, Salam often discovered solutions to mathematical problems for which others could not.

    Computer Virus

    • Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi created the first stealth computer virus in 1986. The "Brain" infected IBM personal computer diskettes. The brothers added their names and phone numbers to the virus to learn the extent of software piracy in Pakistan.
