Maui lies in the Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 miles (1,609 km) west-southwest of San Francisco. It is the second-largest Hawaiian island (after Hawaiʻi Island) and sits centrally in the archipelago, surrounded by Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and Kahoʻolawe.
