What does Hawaiian Luau mean?

Luau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast celebrating a special occasion (e.g. a birthday, graduation, etc.).

These events usually center around the consumption of native foods; in the case of modern lūʻau, the centerpiece tends to be an imu — or underground oven — containing roasted pig.
