Located in Manhattan between Houston Street and 14th Street, Greenwich Village was home to literary greats such as Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain and Walt Whitman. Famous as the hub of non-conformity and birthplace of bohemian culture, Greenwich Village, also called the Village, is a residential area and the location of New York University. Known for its expensive real estate, the Village still has a strong youthful presence from New York University-subsidized student housing.
