What is oceanic-oceanic subduction?

Oceanic-oceanic subduction is a geological process that occurs when two oceanic plates collide and one is forced beneath the other. This process is driven by the denser of the two plates sinking beneath the less dense plate. The sinking plate is heated and melted, and the resulting magma rises to the surface to form volcanoes. Oceanic-oceanic subduction can also cause the formation of island arcs, which are chains of volcanic islands that form along the boundary between two colliding oceanic plates.
