Why the UK Flag Is Red, White, and Blue

The Union Jack (Union Flag) combines three national flags:

• White diagonal cross on blue – Scotland (St. Andrew's Cross).
• Red upright cross on white – England (St. George's Cross).
• Red diagonal cross on white – Northern Ireland (St. Patrick's Cross).

Wales is represented by the red dragon on the royal arms, not on the flag itself.
