Tay River Trips is run by Dundee-based Taymara, a local charity that provides maritime training. A number of cruises are available, including Tay River cruises from Woodhaven to Perth, dolphin watching cruises from Broughty Ferry and tours of the Tay Estuary taking in local wildlife and visiting the Bell Rock. You can also charter vessels and plan your own cruise of the estuary. Badger and Marigot are the two vessels used for passenger cruises. Both are fully equipped with GPS, radar and the latest navigational and safety equipment. The boats are crewed and maintained by Taymara members.
Taymara offers other opportunities to explore the Tay Estuary. Besides passenger cruises, the organization provides nautical and boat-handling training in the estuary for members of the local community. Passengers on cruises and dolphin watching trips will see volunteers learning maritime skills.
WiseScheme.com lists a number of companies providing boat trips along the east coast of Scotland. Although Tay River Trips is the only dedicated provider of Tay Estuary cruises, a number of other charter companies will hire out boats and organize trips to the Tay Estuary. You will have a good chance of seeing dolphins basking in the estuary waters, so even if you are on vacation elsewhere in Scotland, chartering a boat trip to the Tay Estuary can provide a memorable experience.
Sea Angling runs fishing and sightseeing trips Arbroath, 17 miles north of Dundee. Trips can be organized for between three and six hours for individuals or groups up to 20. While many fishing and sightseeing trips are based around Arbroath, longer trips into the Tay Estuary as far as Perth can also be arranged.
