RV Campgrounds Near Chester, New York

The town of Chester, in New York State's Hudson River Valley, is 60 miles north of Manhattan. While Chester itself lacks major tourist attractions, the region is home to ski areas, historic homes and buildings, state parks and golf courses. The Hudson and Delaware rivers also run through the area, providing opportunities for kayaking, rafting and canoeing. Four RV campgrounds within 25 miles of Chester offer a variety of activities and amenities.
  1. Black Bear Campground

    • Black Bear Campground, 7 miles southwest of Chester, has RV sites with full hookups, cable TV and wireless Internet. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings with restrooms, showers and laundry facilities centrally located. Recreational amenities include a swimming pool, a miniature golf course, volleyball and basketball courts, a children's playground, a fishing pond and nature trails. Well behaved pets are welcome. Campers may want to visit nearby attractions such as Sugar Loaf Arts & Crafts Village, the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, Woodbury Common Premium Outlets and the Appalachian Trail.

    Korn's Campgrounds

    • Korn's Campgrounds, 8 miles northwest of Chester, offers RV sites in a wooded area along the Shawangunk Kill River and in an open field. Sites have electrical and water hookups, restrooms and showers. Recreation options include a swimming pool, a basketball court, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits and sports fields. The campground has organized activities such as bingo, DJ nights, karaoke and pig roasts. Area attractions include High Point State Park, Bear Mountain State Park and Bethel Motor Speedway.

    Harriman State Park

    • Harriman State Park, 22 miles southeast of Chester, is the second-largest park in the New York state system with 31 lakes and reservoirs, three beaches, 200 miles of hiking trails and miles of scenic roads. The park has facilities for hiking, fishing, picnicking and swimming. The Beaver Pond Campground, within Harriman State Park on Lake Welch, offers RV sites, but no hookups. The campground has a central dump station, a water station, restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. A protected swimming beach is available to campers when lifeguards are on duty.

    New York City North/Newburgh KOA

    • The New York City North/Newburgh KOA is 24 miles northeast of Chester in Plattekill. Just 90 minutes from New York City and surrounded by the Catskill Mountains, the park offers RV sites with full hookups, cable TV, wireless Internet and laundry facilities. For recreation, the KOA has two pools, a miniature golf course, fishing areas, nature trails, a TV lounge, a playground, an inflated bounce pillow and bike rentals. Firetruck rides and hayrides are available when weather permits.
