Located about five miles west of Jones Beach, Nickerson Beach Park has a campground with 74 sites for RVs and 13 sites for tents. The campground is open seasonally between April and November. Water, electrical and sewer hookups are available at certain sites. Activities in Nickerson Beach include swimming and hiking. The campground is available only for Nassau County residents and their guests.

Less than 10 miles from Jones Beach on the Long Island mainland, Battle Row Campground has 31 RV sites with water and electrical hookups, as well as 21 sites with no hookups. There are 12 additional campsites for 10 campers. Facilities include two dump stations and two comfort stations. Camping is open to the public, and the campground is open between April and November.

About 20 miles east of Jones Beach, Heckscher State Park has 69 sites for RV and tent camping. RVs must measure less than 11 feet to camp at Heckscher. The park has a swimming pool, and guests can also swim in the Great South Bay. Activities include hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing. The park has a boat launch ramp, playing fields and a playground. Visitors can reserve campsites through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's website.
