South Florida is well known for being home to the Everglades, which is a vast ecosystem consisting of shallow water, many different kinds of plant life and animals like alligators and pelicans. Visiting this area makes a person feel like she has been transported to a different world. Take your significant other on an airboat tour through Everglades National Park so that you can experience it together. Many different airboat companies offer tours through the park, such as Gator Park Airboat Tours or at Sawgrass Recreation Park.
If you would rather get up close and personal with nature on your trip to South Florida, consider going swimming with dolphins. This activity allows you and your significant other to get in the water with dolphins; pet them; and interact with them after receiving information and some training from an expert. Many different companies set up dolphin swims, such as Dolphins Plus in Key Largo or at the Miami Seaquarium.
If you and your significant other enjoy art, Miami might be the South Florida destination for you. This city is known for its modern and art deco scene. For example, take your partner on an art deco walking tour of Miami through the city's art deco historic district. If you prefer art galleries, go for the Wynwood and Design District Art Walk; this art walk takes you through many different galleries in the area, while providing free wine.
If you are going to South Florida from April to June, consider going on a sea turtle nesting walk. You venture out on the walk at about 10 p.m. and wait on the beach for a sea turtle to come out of the ocean and up onto the sand. The sea turtle will then dig a hole, lay up to 120 eggs, cover them up and return to the sea. Flashlights and camera flashes are not allowed because you do not want to scare the turtle away. However, once she starts laying her eggs, people can get close enough to touch her shell, because she is unlikely to stop at that point. Seeing these large, 10-foot long turtles could be an amazing experience for you and your partner.
