One popular July activity in White Lake is to shop for plants, fresh fruits and vegetables, lawn and garden decor, baked goods, popcorn, and crafts at the White Lake Farmers Market (whitelaketwp.com). The market is organized by Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education (huronvalleyrec.com) and White Lake Township and takes place each Saturday on the Lakeland High School (huronvalley.k12.mi.us) campus. Hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from May to October.
Attend Movie in the Park, which is sponsored by White Lake Township Parks and Recreation and scheduled in July and August. Movies begin at dusk and are projected onto a 26-foot screen in Judith Hawley Park (no website; 7525 Highland Rd.; White Lake; no phone). Film genres shown are suitable for the entire family, such as "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Secretariat." In July, White Lake celebrates Independence Day with an annual fireworks display. See the fireworks with your family at dusk over White Lake from the north end of the lake. Admission to both events are free.
The White Lake Township Library (whitelakelibrary.org) hosts events throughout the month of July, but only the Adult Summer Reading program runs throughout the entire month. The program begins in June and ends on the last day in July. If you join the program, read or listen to five books of your choice and list the titles on an entry form, which is available from the library. Complete and return your entry form to the library for a random prize drawing. You can enter the drawing each time you finish reading five books.
Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education offers a wide range of recreational programs in July. Preschool, youth and adult programs are available to residents and visitors and include sports, fitness and aquatics programs, dance and art classes, and special enrichment programs. Some of the things that you can do are play tennis, basketball, soccer or golf; take tai chi or martial arts classes; or take a painting or computer class. A fee is charged for each activity, which take place in different pools, fitness centers and parks in the area.
