Situated 10 miles east of Elkins is the Bowden State Fish Hatchery. The facility is open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The facility places more than 200,000 trout into waterways during the stocking season, which lasts from January until May.
Edray Fish Hatchery is 25 minutes from Seneca State Forest in Marlington, W.Va. The facility is the oldest in the state, opening in 1932. Palestine State Fish Hatchery is situated on 158-acres south of Elizabeth, W.Va. The warm-water facility produces species such as paddlefish, bass, sauger, walleye and northern pike. The facility is open year-round for tours.
The Petersburg Fish Hatchery in Grant County was built in the early 1930s. The hatchery raises golden and rainbow trout eggs and young fish for delivery to other hatcheries in the state.
