The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop presents several art related events. Art and Go Seek, in the Capitol Hill area, features teams of two to six people who search for answers to art questions. Several art shows go on throughout the year, such as Art That Moves. ARTdays Happy Hour: An Evening of Music and Art is one of the organization's evenings to combine music and the arts.
D.C. galleries and museums have year round events. The National Gallery of Art offers ongoing exhibits to suit any style preference, such as From Impressionism to Modernism: The Chester Dale Collection or Gauguin: Maker of Myth. Local galleries plan events during the year to promote artists as well as the gallery. Gallery Plan b has opening receptions before each exhibition opening while Mid City Artists events entail member artists opening their private studios to visitors. The Smithsonian sponsors an annual craft show through its Smithsonian Women's Committee. Money raised from the show benefits the committee's Smithsonian Institution grant program. More than 100 exhibitors offer items at the event from mixed media works to jewelry.
Arts on N Street Festival is put on by the D.C. commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This event takes place over a two week period with graffiti, photography and crafts just some of the arts on display. The D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities also presents Artomatic, which presents music in addition to art projects.
Photography is represented by the FotoWeek D.C. event. Started in 2008, this event presents many activities including photography contests. Lectures and workshops are available throughout the week on a wide variety of photography topics.
Arts on Foot is held each fall in the Penn Quarter area of D.C. The event's art market includes at least 100 exhibitors. Other activities available include live music, alternative art, cooking and food sampling. Family friendly activities as well as exhibits are on hand in the Cultural Corridor. Anyone at the event can also participate in a group art project.
The Cinco de Mayo Festival features performances in mariachi, salsa and merengue dance. Children can make their own piñatas or dancing puppets. On hand is a loteria game, also known as Mexican bingo.
