Within Wausau's Grand Lodge (stoneycreekinn.com) is Loggers Landing Waterpark, an indoor water park that provides an activity pool, a children's water play area with slides and water spraying toys, two water slides that travels inside and outside the water park, and Sasquatch, a massive tube and plunge slide. The water park is open to guests of the lodge as well as the public.
Wausau Whitewater Park (wausauwhitewater.org) is a man-made whitewater river course for kayaks and canoes that runs on the east channel of the Wisconsin River, flowing through downtown Wausau. In 1974 the river channel began to be developed into a world-class slalom course that brings competitors from all around the world. It features all the waves, drops, holes, turns and boulder obstacles that a real whitewater river offers. A dam controls the flow of the water through the course and it is open for everyone to enjoy. Visitors can take training courses at the park to learn how to canoe or kayak in white water.
The Wausau (ci.wausau.wi.us) area boasts over 30,000 acres of lakes in which to water ski, swim, canoe, and fish. Wausau also has three outdoor swimming pools that are open from mid-June through mid-August. The summer is filled with community events including a wine and walk tour in which art galleries offer wine samples and hors d'oeuvres along the route, Wednesday evening concerts, a movie night in the park, a blues music festival, and a hot air balloon rally and glow weekend.
Just two hours away, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, the "Waterpark Capital of the World" offers 20 indoor and outdoor water parks, boasting more water parks than anywhere else in the world. Noah's Ark (noahsarkwaterpark.com) which covers 70 acres has a combined three miles of waterslides, making it the world's largest water park. Among its many water rides is the Black Anaconda, the world's longest water roller coaster, and the Scorpion's Tail, a water ride that drops and loops.
The Kalahari Waterpark (kalahariresorts.com/wi) is the largest indoor waterpark in the United States and is part of the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center. Along with its African-themed décor, rides and water play it contains the popular Flowrider, a boogie board and surfboard ride.
The world's largest indoor/outdoor combination waterpark is not far away in the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort (wildernessresort.com). It offers themed areas -- the Wild West for example -- which includes pools, chutes, slides, and raft rides.
