The Fine Arts Association of Willoughby hosts several live concerts throughout the year. The concerts are always free to the public. The Coffeehouse Series features a diverse collection of musicians and music genres. The atmosphere is casual and guests are welcome to come out ready to sing and dance. Refreshments and coffee are available for purchase.
The City of Chardon Parks and Recreation also hosts public concerts every Friday from June to August. Concerts start at 7 p.m. at the Chardon Square. Types of musical genres include country, rock, classical, R&B, dance and more.
Mel Harder Park is a 12-acre park located on the east side of Chardon. The park is open to the public from sunrise to sunset from spring through fall. Mel Harder Park has a baseball field, a playground, a gazebo, several picnic tables and grills. The city also has a public skate park. The skate park is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Use of the skate park is free to the skate boarders and roller bladers; bicycles are prohibited. Safety equipment is not required; however, participants use the skate park at their own risk.
Chardon has several hiking and recreation areas within 15 miles of the city. Beartown Lakes Reservation is a 149-acre park located in the neighboring cities of Auburn and Brainbridge. Beartown offers hiking, fishing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and winter sledding. Hikers report regular sightings of deer, waterfowl, beaver, turtles and songbirds.
Since the 1800s, thousands of Amish folk have called Chardon home. Their Amish villages surround the countryside of Chardon.
