Woodbridge, Virginia, is home to several upscale golf courses, including the semi-private Old Hickory Golf Club (golfoldhickory.com) and the public Osprey's Golf Club (ospreysgolf.com). In operation since 2005, the Old Hickory Golf Club, which also operates a banquet facility, maintains a par-72 course that spans over 7,000 acres. The Osprey's Golf Club has a par-70, 18-hole course spanning just over 5,000 acres. Golfstyles Magazine considers Osprey's to be one of the "Top 100 Must Play" courses in the region.
Located along the Potomac River, Leesylvania State Park offers a wide range of activities, from hiking to boating. A 508-acre park, the land once belonged to the family of General Robert E. Lee. Activities at the park include tent camping, hiking, boating and bass fishing. The park also hosts guided historic tours and canoe tours, a sponsored summer music series and an educational programs for kids, which includes children's fishing tournaments and day camps for junior rangers.
Veterans Park is a multi-functioning park facility in Woodbridge where residents can participate in a range of activities from swimming in the summer months to basketball during the winter season. Other seasonal activities offered at the park include skating, hiking and baseball. The park also has a children's playground and can accommodate barbecues attended by the whole family, complete with covered picnicking areas. The park also features a designated skate park.
The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a Woodbridge area conservation site for native wildlife and includes over 200 bird species. Offering 644 acres of pristine woodlands and wetlands, the refuge offers an opportunity to experience nature, go birdwatching or take a brisk hike. The refuge also has a two-mile wilderness drive. Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge is considered one of the largest remaining wilderness spaces in all of northern Virginia. At certain times of the year, deer hunting is permitted within the refuge.
