Massena is a town in northern New York. It is situated on the St. Lawrence River, which serves as a border between the state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. Its location on the St. Lawrence River makes Massena a maritime tourist destination with plenty of activities for people of all ages.
  1. Fishing

    • The St. Lawrence River is a prime destination for fishers. Individuals and groups may fish on their own in the river or charter a private company to provide a boat, equipment and fishing lessons. For example, Let's Go Fishin' (letsgofishin.us) is a company in Massena that offers three-hour, six-hour and weekend charter fishing services. Fish that are frequently caught in the St. Lawrence River include: pike, bass and drum fish.

    Golf

    • There are several golfcourses in Massena. The Massena Country Club (massenacountryclub.com) is an 18-hole golf course with views of the St. Lawrence River; it also has a restaurant on-site, The Club House Grill restaurant. Another golf course in Massena is the Fox Hill Country Club (foxhillgolfonline.com). The Fox Hill Country Club golf course features 11 holes with a par of 44. For those who do not have golf clubs, Fox Hill Country Club provides club rentals for a fee of six dollars (as of March 2011). Additionally, there is a nine hole golf course at the Raymondville Golf and Country Club, which opened to the public in 1945.

    Massena Museum

    • The Massena Museum (massenaworks.com/museum) is a museum situated at 200 E. Orvis St. in Massena. Visitors can browse exhibits that discuss the history of Massena and the surrounding community. As of March 2011, the museum is open Monday through Friday. The museum gift shop sells Massena commemorative pins and books that detail the history of the town. Many events and presentations are held at the museum each year; the events focus on preserving and exploring the town's history.

    Seaway Visitor's Center

    • The United States Eisenhower lock is a tourist attraction in Massena. According to The Ship Watcher, 3,000 maritime vessels from throughout the world pass through the lock each year. People can watch ships, cargo vessels and boats navigate the lock from an observation deck at nearby Seaway Visitor's Center in Massena. There is also a gift shop situated at the Visitor's Center where guests can purchase souvenirs. As of the time of publication, the Seaway Visitor's Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
