Unalakleet is a very small city located near the Bering Sea in Alaska. The closest major town is Nome, Alaska, which is only accessible from Unalakleet by air transportation. Alaska Air regularly offers round-trip flights from Nome to Unalakleet, and it is also possible to charter a private plane from Nome to Unalakleet. Close to Nome is Solomon, Alaska, which is about a 30-mile drive from Nome. Unalakleet is most well-known for its hunting and fishing resources, and is especially known for its king salmon and king crab harvests.
The Unalakleet River Lodge is an all-inclusive, rustic fishing lodge that caters almost exclusively to fly and game anglers who want to take advantage of the excellent fishing in Unalakleet's waters. Modeled on the classic Alaskan lodge format, the housing options are individual log cabins, each with their own full bath, a flushing toilet and heating. There are two twin-size beds available in each cabin, and all guests have access to the main lodge that is over 100 feet long and overlooks the Unalakleet River. The lodge is known for its luxurious amenities, allowing for king-sized bed options if requested in advance, as well as plenty of hot water and Polo Ralph Lauren bath products. The dining room is located in the main lodge and regularly features the freshest locally caught fish.
The Solomon Bed and Breakfast is located in Solomon, Alaska, which is 34 miles outside of Nome. The Solomon B&B is a former historic schoolhouse that has been converted into a bed and breakfast. Solomon's tribal council is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility, which serves as a community building as well as an economic resource for the community, allowing them to create a self-sustaining tourism venture. The Solomon B&B offers four basic private rooms, each with their own bath, private entry and a patio. There is a communal kitchen available, along with a dining room and snack shop. Despite its remote location, the B&B also offers a conference room, along with access to wireless Internet, a computer and a printer. Many outdoor and nature based activities are available for guests, including canoe and kayak access, a playground for children, views of the Bering Sea, mountains and Solomon River, as well as being a well-suited location for avid birders, who can catch the annual migration of birds in the Solomon Delta. The B&B is only open to guests from May to September.
The Aurora Inn and Suites is located in the historic district of Nome, Alaska, and has some of the most contemporary accommodations available in remote Alaska.
