The Inn at Coldfoot Camp provides the only lodging in Coldfoot, Alaska. Coldfoot -- population 12 -- is located above the Arctic Circle and sits at Mile 175 of the Dalton Highway. The 414-mile north-south highway is a rugged and nearly desolate road through Arctic wilderness. It begins 70 miles north of Fairbanks and leads up to the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay. Coldfoot Camp provides the only food, fuel and lodging for 240 miles.
  1. History

    • In the 1970s, Coldfoot served as a camp for construction workers building the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Today's rooms at the inn are converted living quarters originally built for the workers. After the pipeline was completed, Coldfoot evolved into a rest area for semi truck drivers. Eventually the former worker living quarters were transformed into public accommodations.

    Description

    • The Inn at Coldfoot has 50 very basic rooms available. Each room is supplied with two twin beds, a desk and private bathroom facilities. All rooms are properly serviced and cleaned by the staff.

    Rates

    • The rate for the Inn at Coldfoot Camp is $219 per night, as of January 2011. The rate is based on both single and double occupancy and remains the same year-round. Triple occupancy is charged $20 more and a roll-away bed is not provided.

    Dining

    • Coldfoot Cafe provides the only food available. It is located just a short walk from the inn and is open 5 a.m. until midnight. A breakfast and lunch buffet is available during the summer. In the winter, food can only be ordered from the cafe's menu. Carry-out boxed lunches are also available, which the cafe recommends ordering in advance.
