Learning the names of the United States in Spanish is not as difficult as it sounds, especially because most of the state names are the same in Spanish and English. In fact, only 16 of the United States have different names in Spanish. By learning the names of locations of the states in English and then studying their Spanish names, you can easily learn to identify each of the 50 states in either language.
Print out both a labeled and an unlabeled map of the United States. If you do not already know the locations of the different states in English, study these maps until you can correctly identify them -- learning the states in Spanish is more difficult if you do not know them in English.
List the 16 states that have different names in Spanish. Write down the English name next to the Spanish name. For example, write "Carolina del Sur" next to "South Carolina" and "Misuri" next to "Missouri."
Write the English name for each state on a set of 16 notecards, then write the Spanish name on the other side. Use these notecards to study with a partner or by quizzing yourself on the Spanish names.
Quiz yourself by writing out the names of the states on a blank map of the USA. This tests not only your comprehension of geography, but also your practical application of the Spanish names for the different states.
