Michigan Nightclubs

When visiting Michigan, your sightseeing needn't end when the sun goes down. See how Midwesterners party at some of the state's eclectic and exciting nightlife hot spots. Whether you're in Ann Arbor, Detroit or elsewhere in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, you can select from numerous late night entertainment options.

  1. Cavern Club

    • Self-proclaimed to be Michigan's largest club, the Cavern Club actually forms just one element of a four-in-one compound of nightclubs. The Cavern Club, Millenium Club, Gotham City and Circus occupy a large one-time mill and brewery in downtown Ann Arbor. Whether you prefer DJ sets into the wee hours or a more relaxed environment with jukeboxes and billiards, the complex's various clubs can satisfy your nocturnal tastes. The "Cavern Club" part of the venue is so-named for its location, in the atmospheric basement of the mill. Arched brick roofs give the club an "underground" vibe. Live musical acts perform regularly in the Millenium Club.

    MGM Grand

    • When in Michigan's capital, take your nighttime celebrating up a notch at the swanky MGM Grand Detroit. The nightclub is one branch of a hotel and nightclub chain with other locations in Las Vegas, New York City and other major cities. If you wish to begin your nightlife earlier, you can visit the attached casino. Later, dance the night away to big-name live musical acts or DJ sets. Individual clubs within the complex include the main V Nightclub as well as specialty venues like the Agua Rum and Tequila Bar. In 2010, the V at MGM received Metromix.com Detroit's award for best nightclub.

    The Bank

    • On the east side of Detroit, in downtown Mt. Clemens, The Bank nightclub is housed in what was once actually a bank, a 54,000-square-foot venue with distinctive white, curvaceous rooflines. The Bank features a large outdoor patio for summertime nightlife and multiple stories of indoor dance floors and chill-out lounges. In 2010, the club's resident DJ lineup garnered Metro Detroit's award for "Favorite DJ."

    The B.O.B.

    • The B.O.B. is among Grand Rapid's larger nightlife attractions, actually a complex of smaller bars and clubs. Among your options are Bobarino's, where you can order wood-fired pizza early in the evening, and you can follow your meal with live musical acts late into the night. At Crush, dance until the wee hours to DJ sets and imaginative themed party nights. Additional features and venues include planned expansion that is slated, as of 2011, to include an outdoor festival space.
