This annual one-day event, held on a Saturday early in October at Haulover Beach Park Marina, is sponsored by the United Chinese Association of Florida. Experience many aspects of Chinese culture including the 2,000-year-old tradition of dragon boat racing, an egg-roll eating competition, authentic Asian cuisine, cultural music and dance performances, a martial arts performance and a kids' kite content. Other activities include a health-information booth and face painting, drawing contests and other children's activities in the Kids' Dragon Playground.

    Oktoberfest

    • Oktoberfest is an annual German event.

The German American Club of Greater Miami hosts this annual event commemorating the original celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese in 1810. Vast quantities of German beer, sauerkraut, German sausage, potato salad, pretzels, desserts and other German cuisine are available. German music, native dress and ethnic dances are all part of the program at this 19-year event. The adult menu price for a variety of food was $15 and a kids' menu including hamburgers and fries was $6 as of October, 2010.

    Miami Metro Zoo

October is the perfect time to visit the Miami Metro Zoo. The scorching August heat has subsided, the tourist season has waned and you'll have more elbow room than you would at peak times. The zoo also hosts several Halloween events beginning in mid-October and continuing through the end of the month. Take the kids to Dr. Wilde's Creepy House, attend the Monster Masquerade and let your little ones go trick-or-treating at Zoo Boo!

    South Florida Theatre Festival

    • Whether you're an avid theater fan or a newbie when it comes to live performances, the annual South Florida Theatre Festival is an opportunity to enjoy quality live performances throughout October. This four-county event offers multiple locations, including several in Miami, where you can experience numerous performances. Attend a free night of theater on the first night of this event. Lectures, backstage tours, workshops and a festival closing party round out the events of the thespian festivities.
