Finding a street address from a rural route is a fairly easy process, especially with so much information available on the Internet. Historically, rural routes were mail routes that lacked the more commonly used street address. Houses were few and far between, and a separate method of designating addresses was used than for routes in more populated areas.
In recent years, with the advent of the 911 communication system, rural routes have been replaced by the more common designation, making it simpler to dispatch emergency personnel. It is still sometimes necessary to find the physical address from the rural route if you need to visit someone's home.
Access the Internet. Go to a mapping website, such as Google Maps or Mapquest.
Type in the rural address.
Click on "Driving Directions."
Enter the address from which you are coming. (For example, your address if you need directions from your home to the rural address.)
Click "Get Directions."
Print the map or write down the directions.
Take the rural address to your county's municipal building. Usually someone in the tax assessment office will be able to help you find the physical address.
Call or take the rural address to your local sheriff's office. In most cases, that office also has access to detailed county maps and can assist you in finding the physical street address of a rural property.
Call or take the rural address to your local branch of the post office.
