Calvert County is wedged between two gigantic fisheries. The Chesapeake Bay offers anglers opportunities to catch some tasty game fish including flounder and trout. There are 350 species of fish in the bay to look for, both resident and migratory.
Chesapeake Bay is the dominant body of water on the eastern coast of Calvert County. Fishing is the main attraction of the bay and game include rockfish, bluefish, drum, speckled trout, flounder, spot and croaker. North Beach and Chesapeake Beach in northern Calvert County are two convenient access points for the bay. According to "The Chesapeake Bay" website, there is a hot spot called "The Power Plant" just off the coast of Calvert Beach, and south of that the Gas Docks is another fishery north of the Chesapeake Ranch Estates.
The lower Patuxent River borders Calvert County to the west. There are several places that offer public access to the Patuxtent including the Patuxtent Camp Grounds in the southern portion of the county and King's Landing Park to the north. The Patuxtent Camp Grounds has great crabbing and fishing, according to the Calvert County website. King's Landing features a 200-foot fishing pier with canoe and kayak access.
Chesapeake Bay charters located in Calvert County are mostly out of Chesapeake Beach. They include Bay Hunter Charters, which captains a 42-foot charter vessel out of Chesapeake Beach and is licensed to carry up to 12 guests. Bunky's Charter Boats offers guides both on the Chesapeake Bay and on the Patuxent and is based out of Solomons, Maryland.
