Things to Do in Las Vegas Outside of the Casinos

Las Vegas is a destination known for its vivid nightlife and gambling environment. For those who get bored with the casino floor, however, there are many other entertainment options and activities within the city. There are even a number of family-friendly activities available in Las Vegas, so children will have something to do as well.

  1. Enjoy a Fine Dining Experience

    • Las Vegas is an ideal destination for foodies with sophisticated palates. Many of the major resort casinos house multiple fine dining restaurants which specialize in a wide range of cuisines. Joel Robuchon at the MGM Grand serves a luxurious French menu, as does Alize at the Palms. For an Italian fine dining experience, consider celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck's Postrio at the Venetian. The Bellagio features several luxury restaurants, including Michael Mina, Olives and Le Cirque. Nobu at the Hard Rock Hotel serves Japanese and South American fusion dishes in a glamorous setting as well.

    Go Shopping

    • For travelers who enjoy shopping, there are plenty of retail opportunities in Las Vegas. The Forum Shoppes at Caesar's Palace and the Canal Shoppes at the Venetian feature luxury boutiques and designer stores, such as Burberry, Stuart Weitzman and Movado. For those who are lucky at the casino, a trip to Wynn for window shopping at Penske Wynn Ferrarir Maserati, Chanel, Cartier, Louis Vuitton or Dior may be in order. Crystals at the City Center also houses many luxury shopping venues, such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co. and Versace. The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, the Fashion Show Mall and the Las Vegas Outlet Center offer more moderately priced shopping options, including stores like Macy's, Sephora and the Gap.

    Have Fun with the Kids

    • While Las Vegas might be best known for its gambling thrills, it is also home to many thrill rides that are often favorites of children. New York New York has a roller coaster whose track overlooks the Strip, which may be fun for daredevils. The Stratosphere Hotel Casino houses several thrill rides, including a roller coaster, a free fall ride and a sling shot type ride, which are all located over 100 stories above the ground at the top of the Stratosphere Tower. For racing fans, there is also a NASCAR themed roller coaster at the Sahara Hotel Casino. Circus Circus features an on-site theme park, Adventuredome, which contains a wide range of rides, carnival games and shows. It also features the Rim Runner, a flume style ride guaranteed to soak riders during the final descent, so it may be a good choice on hot summer days in Las Vegas.
