Maui is a more popular island, but it also retains its natural attractions. It's quite easy to combine these two islands on a Hawaii itinerary, as there are multiple ways to travel between these two destinations.
Plan your route. With no less than six inter-island airlines competing for business, it is easy to find a good deal on airfare. Because of this, many travelers plan a triangular route, with the Kauai to Maui flight being one of the three legs. This is by far the cheapest way to travel.

Arrive early at the airport. Lihue Airport on Kauai is different from most airports. The terminal is mostly un-walled, so check-in takes place in the open air. Because of this unusual setup, it is best to give yourself time to check in and find out where to wait for boarding to begin.
