Surf City, North Carolina is a small beach town located on Topsail Island. This area features panoramic views of the beach, small town shopping and activities for all ages. Private events, such as weddings and parties, are held throughout the year. In addition, public events are celebrated around specific holidays or for certain causes, such as fire prevention. Local volunteers usually manage and set up these events. Most activities are held at Southside Park, but on occasion other events are held in town or at other locations.
Fire Prevention Day is an event that takes place at the Southside Park in Surf City. Information packets are given out that target all ages, even small children. Kids can meet fire fighters and climb on board a real fire truck. The truck is stationary and does not move during the entire day because it is for an exhibit only. Enjoy games, free lunch and hands on learning stations. Prizes and other treats are also given out. This event is open to everyone, especially families.

Independence Day is celebrated in Southside park on the third of July every year. The town started celebrating the holiday on the third instead of the fourth when the Surf City was 50-years-old. The locals decided to feature fireworks on the third because many other neighboring towns were having their celebrations on the fourth and having fire works on two nights extended the holiday weekend. Surf City has continued this traditional every year thereafter. Live music is featured at the event and the fire department also sells hot dogs and other foods. Enjoy the fire works early at Surf City and then hop on over to another nearby town to enjoy a second fire works display on the fourth.
The Fall Festival and Costume Contest is another event held in Surf City, North Carolina at Southside Park. The costume contest is for all ages from infants to adults. All the games are free and small prizes are given out to the winners. Food and candy are also sold at the event.
