Opened in 1924, the venue was built with a stage to accommodate theater performances as well as with a screen for motion pictures. The large, tiled-dome venue seats 1,500 patrons throughout a sweeping first floor and balcony, offering fine acoustics resonating from an orchestra pit and Broadway-sized stage. Adding to the charm, there are two waterfalls operating on both sides of the theatre´s proscenium arch. Today, Balboa Theatre hosts a large variety of upscale productions, including operas; orchestras; popular music concerts; modern circus acts; and theater performances of comedies, dramas and musicals.
