Each year, around 15 million visitors head to Washington, D.C. to experience the attractions of the capital city, according to Destination DC.   1. Marrakesh Restaurant

    • Marrakesh Restaurant is adjacent to Mount Vernon Square and the Washington Convention Center. The restaurant's menu includes six courses. The meal begins with eggplant, cucumber and carrot salads, followed by b'stella, a pastry stuffed with chicken, eggs and nuts. Diners then select a chicken entree and a beef or lamb entree. A third main course, a vegetarian cous cous, is then served. To complete the meal, the restaurant offers diners a basket of fresh fruit, Moroccan pastries baked on-site and hot mint tea. Marrakesh serves lunch and dinner daily, and reservations are required and accepted only by telephone. Casual attire is appropriate, and the restaurant features belly dancing nightly.

    Marrakesh Palace

    • Established in December 2006, Marrakesh Palace is in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood. The restaurant held Zagat dining guide ratings of "very good to excellent" for its food, service and decor as of August 2010. Thirteen appetizers lead the menu, including beef cigars, pastries filled with ground beef, vermicelli, eggs and Moroccan spices. For the main course, the restaurant offers cous cous, tagines and brochettes or kabobs. For dessert, try the caramel cream with orange blossom water or the house-made yogurt with fresh fruit. The wine list includes four Moroccan vintages, as well as domestic and imported selections. Marrakesh Palace is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are highly recommended and accepted both online and over the phone. Business casual attire is suggested, and belly dancing is featured every evening.

    Mie N Yu

    • Located in Georgetown, Mie N Yu opened in February 2003 and specializes in Silk Road cuisine, which combines Moroccan flavors with those of India, the Middle East, China and Korea. As of August 2010, the restaurant had Zagat ratings of "very good to excellent" for its decor and "good to very good" for its food and service. The menu begins with five appetizers, such as the roasted garlic and zataar hummus served with braised fava beans, garlic, tomatoes and lemon. A featured entree is Moroccan beef, which is braised and served with apricots, raisins, dates and prunes, all seasoned with cinnamon, honey and saffron and then served over roasted root vegetables. Featuring more than 300 selections, the wine list is a past recipient of the Wine Spectator magazine Award of Excellence. Mie N Yu serves lunch Fridays through Sundays and dinner nightly. Reservations are highly suggested and accepted online and over the phone. Business casual attire is recommended.
