Located just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Townsend, Tenn., provides visitors with an ideal home base to explore the park or the nearby Tuckaleechee Caverns. The Little River, which traverses the town, is home to numerous vacation rental cabins. And while many of these cabins along the Little River are secluded, they still provide easy access to the restaurants, galleries and festivals in Townsend.
The "Bear"ly Rustic Cabins has 48 different cabins available to rent, 15 of which are located on the Little River and other smaller local creeks. Those that are on the water's shore all provide rocking chairs on a porch that overlooks the river.
Cabins range from one to three bedrooms. The smallest cabins, which sleep from two to four people, include a bathroom, full kitchen and dining area, gas fireplace, a hot tub and a gas grill. The largest cabins, which sleep up to eight people, offer queen-size beds in each room, two full bathrooms, a full kitchen and dining area, hot tubs, satellite television and DVD players.

The Dogwood Cabins consists of 75 vacation cabins throughout Townsend, and some that are located along creeks and the Little River. The 14 waterfront cabins include fully equipped kitchens and fireplaces, and range from one to six bedrooms, sleeping up to 14 people. Each cabin has one or more bathrooms, covered or screened porches, charcoal or gas grills, hot tubs, televisions and dining areas. Some cabins include king-size beds, washers and dryers, wireless Internet and game rooms. Guests who stay at the Dogwood Cabins also receive free access to the Laurel Valley Swimming Pool and Restaurant.

There are nine rental cabins available at the Old Smoky Mountain Cabins, six of which are on the shores of the Little River or its various creek tributaries. The cabins range from one to two bedrooms and include queen- or king-size beds, fireplaces, televisions and central heat and air. The two-bedroom cabins also include outdoor hot tubs, porches that overlook the river or creek, dishwashers and washers and dryers.
The Old Smoky Mountain Cabin complex also includes a pool, meeting room, stables and corrals, and a petting zoo.

At the Wright Cabins, guests can choose from 10 cabins, four of which are on waterfront property. The Brookside Cabin is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom property that has a heart-shaped hot tub, full kitchen, washer and dryer, and deck.
The Rivermont Cabin is right next to the Little River and has two bedrooms and bathrooms, a hot tub in the master bedroom, full kitchen and screened-in porch with an adjacent deck. The River Queen and the River Bend Cabins are both on the Little River and have four bedrooms and two bathrooms. They include linens, charcoal grills, gas fireplaces and full kitchens with dining areas.
