Travel Destinations in North Pole, New York

Travelers heading to the northeastern portion of New York may want to plan a trip to the North Pole. North Pole--part of Wilmington, New York--is less than 30 miles west of Lake Champlain and holds surprises for the youngest visitor and the most adventurous guest. Hike to the top of the tallest mountain peak in New York--Mount Marcy, only 22 miles south--or say hello to Santa in the summer.

  1. Santa's Workshop

    • The Enchanted Village of the Adirondack's Santa's Workshop keeps the holiday spirit alive beyond December. Take a journey on the Candy Cane Express, or ride the Christmas-themed carousel, miniature roller coaster or Ferris wheel. Seasonal shows and parades are held regularly and guests can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and collect a souvenir photo. Kids can see Frosty and Mother Goose and visit the reindeer barn to pet the animals. Craftsmen are on view creating candles and toys. Personalized gifts and participatory projects are available. The gift shop and dining facilities offer Christmas sweets and treats. The park is open June through December, but on limited days of the week.

    Whiteface Mountain KOA Kampground

    • This KOA offers more than just accommodations, it is itself an entertainment destination. The campground includes a heated pool, miniature golf course and playground, along with a game room that provides a break during inclement weather. Rent a bike and try the Whiteface Mountain bike trails, visit the Ausable River to view the waterfalls and gorge overlooks, or explore the hiking trails that wind through the Adirondack Mountains.     • At Whiteface Mountain, the former facility for the 1980 Olympic games now serves the public by offering a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sporting opportunities, all in one place. Cloudsplitter Gondola rides carry passengers to the top of Little Whiteface, where guests can enjoy the view from the overlook. Travelers can ride 27 mountain bike trails, which include downhill courses. Combination hiking and yoga outings help you work out and relax all in one session. Ride a bobsled down the Olympic track or skate at the Olympic Center. An Olympic Sites Passport allows visitors to pay one price for all of the venues available.
