Travelers heading to the northeastern portion of New York may want to plan a trip to the North Pole. North Pole--part of Wilmington, New York--is less than 30 miles west of Lake Champlain and holds surprises for the youngest visitor and the most adventurous guest. Hike to the top of the tallest mountain peak in New York--Mount Marcy, only 22 miles south--or say hello to Santa in the summer.
The Enchanted Village of the Adirondack's Santa's Workshop keeps the holiday spirit alive beyond December. Take a journey on the Candy Cane Express, or ride the Christmas-themed carousel, miniature roller coaster or Ferris wheel. Seasonal shows and parades are held regularly and guests can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and collect a souvenir photo. Kids can see Frosty and Mother Goose and visit the reindeer barn to pet the animals. Craftsmen are on view creating candles and toys. Personalized gifts and participatory projects are available. The gift shop and dining facilities offer Christmas sweets and treats. The park is open June through December, but on limited days of the week.
