Memorial Day is a national holiday in the United States that occurs on the last Monday of May each year. The holiday commemorates those Americans who have died in military service to the country. Due to the normally warm seasonal temperatures and the city's patriotic history, the weekend is a popular one for events, outdoor gatherings and activities in Boston.
Each Memorial Day, the Museum or Fine Arts Boston (MFA) grants free general admission to all visitors during its annual open house. Supported by the MFA senior associates committee, the open house features film events, art-related activities and live music and theatrical performances. The MFA is home to nearly half a million works of art that span a myriad of cultures and time periods.

Non-runners are invited to partake in the celebration and cheer on participants. All proceeds benefit the Boston youth charity Kids at Risk.
