Family Events on Memorial Weekend Near Seattle

The area in and around Seattle offers much to do during the Memorial day weekend. This long weekend in May is often a time when families like to do things together. Look for hands-on activities, cultural events, educational and many other types of Memorial activities.

There, you can find a number of art, craft and science related events that are great for the kids. Previous activities have included stop-motion clay animation hands on demonstrations, arts and crafts projects and wooden boat building. The festival also features tasty food, music and art that all ages can enjoy. The festival has a rich 30-year history, and the Library of Congress recognized it in 1999 as a Local Legacy.

    Museum of Flight

On Memorial Day itself, the museum features music played by the Boeing Employees Concert Band throughout the day. They start at noon. With discounted rates for youth and children, and more than 150 aircraft on display at the museum, the Flight Museum is an option many enjoy on this special day.

    Seattle International Film Festival

    • The festival runs longer than the Memorial Day weekend, and visitors can find some enjoyable molvies to take in during the long weekend in May at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF.) The festival will run from May 19 to June 12 in 2011. The festival includes some films geared towards families. The Films4Families programming lineup also features family friendly films at several of the festival's theaters during weekend mornings. This gives families alternatives to Saturday morning cartoons, starting the Memorial Day weekend with a fun outing. This series also programs international family films, which allows you to take in some family fare that you might not get to see anywhere else.
