Throughout the year, the city of Leominster serves as home to a variety of events geared toward families. These festivals feature activities enjoyed by both children and adults and revolve around major holidays, arts and crafts and the celebration of the seasons.

  1. Johnny Appleseed Arts & Cultural Festival

    • The Johnny Appleseed Arts & Cultural Festival occurs each year during the month of September at Monument Square Park on West Street in Leominster. Sponsored by the Leominster Downtown Association, the event began in 1993 and lasts one day, typically a Saturday. The festival features an international food court and more than 120 vendor booths. For children, the event has a moonwalk, games, arts and crafts. Kids and teenagers also enjoy their own kids dance party. Live music concerts occur throughout the day, and the festival also includes a "Best Pizza in Town" competition, allowing event-goers to sample small pieces of the pies used for contest entries. Admission to the Johnny Appleseed Arts & Cultural Festival is free for all ages.

    Halloween Festival & Parade

    • The Halloween Festival & Parade occurs on a Saturday or a Sunday toward the end of October each year. The event begins with a parade, in which children of all ages can participate by coming in their costumes and meeting at the Court House of Leominster on Main Street. The parade moves from the City Hall to nearby Carter Park, where the festivities continue with candy, games and activities for children. Families and adults who watch the parade can also come to the park to enjoy the festival. Admission to the Halloween Festival & Parade is free. The Leominster Department of Recreation organizes the event.

    Apple Blossom Festival

    • On a Saturday in May each year, Sholan Farms in Leominster hosts the Apple Blossom Festival, a celebration of spring. The site is a city-owned green space that becomes a favorite local destination for apple and pumpkin picking later in the year.

      The Friends of Sholan Farm, a nonprofit organization, organizes the event, which began in 2001. The day includes craft and food booths for adults. Children can enjoy special games and activities, including pony rides. Live musical concerts occur throughout the day. The Apple Blossom Festival is a free event, funded by donation drives and sponsorship of the booths and activities that take place during the day.
