Labor Day occurs on the first Monday in September and is a national holiday in the United States. Generally, Labor Day Weekend is considered the final celebration of summer since school-age children usually go back to school about this time. In Delaware, Labor Day events range from live music festivals to walking tours of historic buildings to gay and lesbian events.
In Dover, Delaware, Labor Day Weekend is celebrated with events for the entire family. At First State Heritage Park, live music plays throughout the day, and visitors can also listen to a living history presentation. Guided walking tours take visitors around to Victorian homes and buildings.
The event is open to the public, and there will be activities for children. The First State Heritage Park is a Delaware State Park.

The Labor Day Weekend Jazz Festival takes place at Chaddsford Winery in Wilmington, Delaware. This three-day annual event includes a tasting of eight wines, food and two live bands each day. This event is recommended for adults, couples and singles. Visitors may bring their own picnic lunch, or they may buy food on the premises. The event takes place on the grounds of the winery. Visitors may also take tours of the winery itself during the event.

Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach area celebrates Labor Day Weekend with a 5-K run/walk on the Sunday before Labor Day. This event raises funds for the Dewey Beach Lions Club.
Rehoboth Beach also hosts gay and lesbian events throughout the weekend. A Drag Volleyball Match takes place over the entire weekend. The Sundance Party also occurs over Labor Day Weekend and is a fundraiser to benefit a number of charities.
