The Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival has been a part of the Seattle scene for more than 40 years. Held on Labor Day weekend, the festival showcases some of the best in music, film, visual arts, comedy and more. The three-day festival at Seattle Center in downtown Seattle has activities both indoors and outdoors, and takes every precaution to make sure its festival-goers are safe. If you're planning to bring your children, the festival website details how it aims to keep families from getting separated--ID wristbands--and what it does to take care of children who do find themselves lost.
The Bite of Seattle, sponsored by Comcast, is a fun family event in which you and your kids can get a taste of much of what this Pacific Northwest city has to offer. The three-day annual festival also features more than 150 entertainment acts, including music and comedy. Admission to the festival is free, but vendor food will cost you from $3.75 to $6--prices are as of 2011. Vendors even offer heart-healthy fare with the "Hope Heart Right Bite," identified by an icon on each vendor's menu.
The Seattle Boat Show is held yearly at the end of January, and it has features both indoors and outdoors--or afloat, as the show says. The indoor portion of the boat show is held at Qwest Field Event Center, where you can see the latest in maritime accessories and take part in informational seminars. At South Lake Union--a free shuttle from Qwest leaves every 30 minutes--you and your family can view more than 1,000 recreational watercraft. Adult and youth ticket prices vary, and there is a five-day pass, to help save money for those who wish to spend more than one day at the boat show.
Seattle's Seafair weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year, held in conjunction with Fleet Week in August, when more than 5,000 sailors disembark their vessels to take part in the weekend's events. Seafair hosts entertainment like the Navy Blue Angels in an air show, hydroplane races, a parade, a marathon, a triathlon and more. Seafair weekend is full of events for the entire family. Make sure you plan ahead so you can find a way to do everything you want to do.
