The challenging winters of Quebec City, Canada, which can get as much as 11 feet of snow from November to May, gives residents reason to celebrate. Carnaval de Quebec has been celebrated since 1894 and takes place just before Lent. People of all ages brave the sub-zero temperatures for a caribou drink, a combination of port wine and whisky blanc; bowls of sagamite, a soup of corn and meat; and maple taffy on wooden sticks. You will see whimsical ice sculptures such as moose, a horse carriage, and igloos.
