State Parks in Katy, Texas

Named after the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad, Katy is popular for bird hunting and is considered to be over one of the state's largest oil reserves. Strategically located just 25 miles west of Houston, Katy is among the biggest suburban towns in Texas. Katy holds an annual Rice Harvest Festival to commemorate the significance of rice to the entire Katy community.

  1. Heritage Park

    • Built in 2003, the Katy Heritage Park features restored historic edifices such as the Wright House, Old Katy Post Office, Featherstone House, Tradition Bank Stand, Stockdick House and the Humble Gas Plant Mess Hall. They are usually open on the first Saturdays and Sundays of the month.

    Katy Railroad Park

    • This downtown pocket park is actually the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas depot. Katy Heritage Park is a good place to enjoy adventure-filled outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, trekking and so much more. Enjoy a variety of wildlife such as robins, chickadees, nuthatches and more. The Katy Railroad Park is also a good avenue for you to learn about the history of the railroad operations from Machens to St. Charles County in the year 1986. Enjoy a unique biking experience as you travel along the park's 200-mile trail.

    Stephen F. Austin State Park

    • Located just along the Brazos River, Stephen Austin State Park gives tourists and locals a chance to get an up-close encounter with nature. Named after "Father of Texas" Stephen Austin, this serene and quiet park invites you to an escape from the busy city life. This pristine park offers beautiful towering canopy and lush landscapes. The park is also famous for its pileated woodpeckers, deer, raccoons, armadillos and opossum perfect for wildlife enthusiasts. Locals and tourists can opt to stay for a day and enjoy its biking and hiking trails or spend a night at one of the cozy campsites. Expect a catfish on your fishing rod at the end of the day. The park is open every day of the week, with its peak season March through May and October through the end of November.
