Campgrounds in Heber Springs, Arkansas

Heber Springs is a town of about 7,000 people in north-central Arkansas on the shores of the 40,000-acre Greer Ferry Lake. Boating, fishing and hiking are all popular outdoor pursuits in the area. The lake was created with the completion of the Greers Ferry Dam across the Little Red River in 1962. The lake is stocked with bass, rainbow trout and other native species. There are a number of campgrounds around town for those who like to sleep under the stars.

  1. Heber Springs Campground

    • On the north side of town, on the shores of Greers Ferry Lake, is the 142-campsite Heber Springs Campground. Electrical hookups are available at 106 of the sites. Toilets, shower facilities and drinking water are provided. The campground also features a boat ramp, swimming area and playground. Campsites are available from April 1 to Oct. 31, and you can reserve them from May 15 to Sept. 5. Campsites cost $14 for non-electric, $17 for electric hookups and $19 for some prime sites.

    John F. Kennedy Campground

    • The John F. Kennedy campground is on the banks of the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam. Named for the president who dedicated Greers Ferry Lake in 1963, the campground has 74 campsites with electricity, 13 of which have water hookups. The campground has flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a boat ramp and a playground. Most sites cost $17 a night, but be prepared to pay up to $20 for a prime location. The Kennedy campsite is open year-round, with reservations accepted from April 15 to Sept. 5.

    Dam Site Campground

    • The Dam Site Campground is on the shores of Lake Greers Ferry near the Greers Ferry Dam. The campground has 252 campsites, including 158 with electric hookups. There are swimming areas, hiking trails and a marina. About 40 campsites have water hookups on-site. A primitive campsite costs $14, while those with electric hookups are $17. Prime locations are $19. The campground is open all year, with reservations accepted for stays between May 15 and Sept. 5.
