North Carolina State Park Cabins

North Carolina has a diverse series of geographical features, which includes the Blue Ridge Mountains in the western part of the state. This mountain range offers opportunities for camping and cycling trails. Several of the state parks in North Carolina have on-site cabins with access to the park's recreational facilities. Modern conveniences in major cities, such as Charlotte and Greensboro, are only a few hours away from these parks.

  1. Haw River State Park

    • Situated in Brown's Summit on the Haw River, Haw River State Park is in the northern part of North Carolina, approximately 30 minutes from Greensboro. The resort's lodging center, referred to as the Summit, features 10 cabins that have eight beds per cabin, as well as room for a rollaway bed if it is needed. Other lodging facilities at the Summit include three cottages that have 12 rooms in each cottage. Haw River amenities include a six-acre lake for fishing and canoeing activities, trails for hiking and cycling, seasonal swimming pool and tennis court facilities. A dining hall that can accommodate up to 200 people is also available.

    Hanging Rock State Park

    • Hanging Rock State Park, less than an hour north of Winston-Salem, is in Danbury and features 10 cabins that have two bedrooms, one bathroom and can accommodate up to six guests. Other amenities in the cabins include a living room area, kitchen and back deck. Pets are not allowed in the cabins. Two of the cabins are accessible to guests with physical disabilities. Facilities at Hanging Rock include a 12-acre lake that provides opportunities for swimming and fishing, picnic areas with barbecue grills and campgrounds. Rentals for canoes and rowboats are available as well. Nature trails at Hanging Rock will take you by the bare rock formation and waterfalls that are in the park.

    Morrow Mountain State Park

    • Morrow Mountain State Park in Albemarle is an approximate one-hour drive from Charlotte and offers fishing and boating opportunities at Baden Lake and Lake Tillery. This state park features six cabins that have two bedrooms, as well as a living room, bathroom, dining area and kitchen. Morrow Mountain has a community building with a kitchen that can host retreats and meetings. Park amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, picnic shelters and boat rentals. Morrow Mountain has over 15 miles of trails that can be used for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. This park also has a 19th century home that is open for the public to view, as well as an exhibit hall with historical and geological artifacts that are indigenous to the area.
