Tours of Frankenmuth, Michigan

Referred to as Michigan's Little Bavaria, Frankenmuth is vibrant town with a decidedly German flair. Nestled in the heart of the state, it is easy to get to from I-75. This town offers dining, lodging, shopping and fun things to do for visitors from far and near. Frankenmuth tours are a good way to enjoy some of Frankenmuth's top visitor attractions.

  1. Frankenmuth Brewery

    • Beer is a Bavarian tradition and the Frankenmuth Brewery crafts several year-round and seasonal brews. Both a brewery and restaurant, it offers a full menu of appetizers, entrees, and burgers and sandwiches, making it a nice stop for a relaxing meal. The brewery also offers meeting and banquet rooms, and seasonal outdoor dining.

According to the Frankenmuth Brewery's website, the original brewery was built in 1862, and was destroyed by a tornado in 1996. A new brewery was completed in 2003, and incorporates many of the elements of the first. Tours are offered, explaining the history of Frankenmuth Brewery and showing the brewing and bottling process.

    Bavarian Belle

    • An authentic paddlewheel boat, the Bavarian Belle brings the past and present together in a relaxing trip up the Cass River. Floating past downtown Frankenmuth and Heritage Park, the Bavarian Belle continues into Michigan's countryside, offering pastoral views.

Running every Monday through Sunday, weather- and season-permitting, the Bavarian Belle can accommodate 150 passengers and offers concessions serving snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and souvenirs. The riverboat tour of Frankenmuth lasts approximately one hour and travels at about three knots (walking speed), and guests are welcome to get up and move about during the tour. The Bavarian Belle can be chartered for a special event, such as a wedding, private cruise or party, according to the Bavarian Belle website.

    Fantasy Carriage Company

    • The Fantasy Carriage Company has been giving tourists a look at Frankenmuth since 1990. This carriage tour company has a "staff" of several well groomed horses that each work a maximum of two and a half days per week, as noted on the Fantasy Carriage Company's website.

Horse drawn carriage tours of Frankenmuth run year-round, weather-permitting. If the heat index reaches 100 degrees F, or the temperature falls to zero, the horses and drivers remain inside. Guest have a choice of tours--a short ride down main street, or a longer ride that highlights more of the town, including some of the beautiful historic homes in Frankenmuth. Drivers are willing to chat with guests, offering information about the history of Frankenmuth and attractions.
