Among the village of Nyack's antique shops and bookstores is a diverse collection of restaurants. This bedroom community, located on the Hudson River 25 miles north of New York City, offers dining options from the traditional and comforting to the contemporary and cosmopolitan.
Located in Nyack's former village courthouse is The Hudson House of Nyack, one of the town's best-known restaurants. Much of the restaurant's ambiance comes from its historic details, including tin ceilings that date back to 1860s, as well as old jail cells which now house The Hudson House's wine collection. The menu is more contemporary than the space and emphasizes fresh fish. The restaurant is best-known, however for co-owner and pastry chef Matt Hudson's desserts, such as sticky toffee pudding cake.

"You eat with your eyes, too," says Doug Chi Nguyen, chef and owner of Nyack's Wasabi restaurant. His presentations, often adorned with fresh flowers, are in fact eye-catching. The modern Japanese menu features plenty of raw fish selections and sushi rolls, but Nguyen also borrows ingredients and techniques from American and French cooking. Nguyen, who was born in Vietnam, but raised in part by an Italian-American family, also offers hybrids such as a sushi tuna "pizza" (raw tuna on crispy wonton skins topped with diced tomatoes and onions), and green tea mascarpone cheesecake.

The space is modern, the crowd is hip, and flavor is the order of the day at Nyack's Café Barcel restaurant. Kevin Reilly, who was executive chef at Manhattan restaurants Water Club and at the Union Square Café, offers items like char-grilled hanger steak with chimichurri sauce and Café Barcel's most popular dessert, freshly fried buñuelos (doughnuts) dusted with cinnamon and served with a chocolate ganache for dipping.
