North Dakota, named the most affordable state to vacation in by AAA, is home to the National Buffalo Museum where you can see the Albino White Cloud Buffalo and white calves. Ranked the friendliest state in the U.S. by Cambridge University, North Dakota has a lot to offer for the nature loving adventurer. With more wildlife refuges than any other state, North Dakota has several beautiful and exciting ATV trails for off-roading enthusiasts and even for the neophyte.
Located in Watford City and with trails stretching more than 8,000 acres, Deep Creek Adventures takes both beginners and experienced riders out on trails in the Badlands in what they claim is "the most pristine nature settings." The season runs from May 19 to August 25 and cabins are available for groups of four to nine people. Cabins come equipped with running water, a refrigerator, microwave and a gas grill.

The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department manages this 16-mile trail in South Central North Dakota. Thirty miles south of Mandan, North Dakota, the trail starts at Fort Rice Campgrounds and you'll ride north along an old railroad bed. You'll see Historic Site Huff Indian Village, Graner Bottoms in Sugar Loaf and end your ride at Little Heart Bottoms in Schmidt Bottoms.

This 100-acre area, located eight miles south of Bismark, is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Lake Oahe, named after the Lakota Sioux Indian Oahe Indian Mission, is 231 miles long with 51 recreation areas located around the reservoir with camping, fishing, hunting, water sports, picnic areas and several other outdoor activities.
