North Central Florida Campgrounds With ATV Access

The wild terrain of north central Florida provides the perfect setting for ATV enthusiasts. From low swamplands to high forests, riders can find thousands of miles of trails with varying degrees of difficulty in north central Florida. For enthusiasts who like to stay where they play, many parks offer campgrounds that provide access to nearby ATV trails.
  1. Apalachicola National Forest Campgrounds

    • The Apalachicola National Forest is located just south of Tallahassee in the Florida Panhandle. The park offers rustic areas for camping as well as five developed recreation areas with camping suitable for tents, trailers and RVs of all sizes. While rustic campsites may not offer additional amenities other than vault toilets, campsites in developed areas have access to water, electrical hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, bathrooms, showers, camp hosts and sanitary dump stations. Apalachicola National Forest features more than 50 miles of ATV trails. The trails have two-way traffic, are marked by yellow fiberglass posts and can be used by ATVs, motorcycles and utility vehicles. Other recreational activities include water sports, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The campgrounds are open year-round, but all stays are restricted to 14 consecutive days in any 30-day period.

    Tate's Hell State Forest Campground

    • Tate's Hell State Forest comprises over 202,000 acres between the Apalachicola and Ochlockonee Rivers in the Florida Panhandle. The park offers more than 20 designated areas for primitive campsites throughout the forest. Campsites are available on a first come first served basis and feature plenty of shade and privacy. The park has more than 150 miles of designated ATV trails on existing forest roads. Trails take riders through all types of terrain, including swamps, blackwater rivers and pine flatwoods. Other recreational activities include water sports, hiking, small-game hunting and mountain biking. Camping is offered year-round with stays restricted to 14 consecutive days in any 30-day period. A special use permit is required for all campsites, except for the Womack Creek Camping Area. Permits can be obtained from a forest field office in Carrabelle or Tallahassee.

    Buttgenbach Mine Campground

    • The Buttgenbach Mine Campground is located within the Withlacoochee State Forest over an hour's drive north of Tampa. The campground is situated just outside of the Croom Motorcycle Area in the Croom Tract district of the park, and offers 50 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. Campsites feature a grassy lawn, access to water, electrical hookups, picnic tables and fire rings. The campground has a sanitary dump station as well as two bathroom and shower facilities. ATV riders can enjoy the Croom Motorcycle Area with over 2,600 acres of unmarked trails for ATVs and motorcycles. Camping is offered year-round on a first-come first-served basis, with stays restricted to 14 consecutive days in any 30-day period.
