Campgrounds in Montana With ATV Trails

Montana's official nickname may be the “Treasure State” but it is better known as Big Sky Country. The fourth largest state, Montana covers more than 147,000 square miles, but has the third lowest population density in the United States. It's a land of natural wonders, of mountains, lakes and forests which include Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Camping will allow you to experience the beauty of Montana firsthand. Campgrounds abound, many with ATV trails and other recreational activities for you to enjoy between July and October.

  1. Greater Yellowstone Area

    • Hundreds of miles of trails await you and your ATV at the Gallatin National Forest. As well, this national forest operates more than 35 well-maintained campgrounds, most of which you can reserve ahead of time. Ennis Village RV is located on Highway 287 about 70 miles from Yellowstone. It offers 76 full-service sites and extra-large pull-through sites that can handle the largest RVs. Other amenities include hot showers, a convenience store and laundry facilities. From here, access the Gallatin National Forest trails or Gravelly Mountain Range Road which offers five off-roading trails.

    Glacier Park Area

    • Glacier Meadow RV Park is a privately owned, full-service campground approximately 16 miles west of the east entrance to Glacier Park. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, showers, restrooms and a playground for kids. You can take your ATV out onto the trails on Skyland Road. In the Flathead National Forest, you can ATV along the Hungry Reservoir Trails and the Blacktail /Wild Bill National Recreation Trail, named as a 2008 Outstanding Trail by BF Goodrich Tires. You can camp at one of the 34 developed campgrounds in the national forest or at a private campground like the West Glacier KOA campsite.

    Southern Montana

    • You'll find some interesting ATV riding in the Little Belt Mountains of the Lewis and Clark National Forest. You can park your RV or pitch your tent at Kings Hill Campground, located on the top of Kings Hills Pass just off Highway 89. The campground has 17 campsites and pets are allowed if on leash. Bitterroot Adventures offers guided ATV tours of the Sapphire Mountains. As well the area south of Painted Rocks State Park offers seasonal ATV-only roads. Located in Darby, Montana, this outfitter provides tours for beginners and the more experienced rider. Darby is home to Bitterroot Hide Away RV Park with 14 full-size RV sites. There is also a bunk house on site that sleeps six.
