Fort Wilderness Campground at Walt Disney World

The theme parks of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, bring laughter and delight to their visitors. However, staying where the magic happens can cost hundreds of dollars a day. One inexpensive option is the Fort Wilderness Campground.

    • Fort Wilderness offers the cheapest lodgings for accessing Disney magic

    Description

    • Officially called the "Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort," this resort offers more than 700 acres of pine and cypress with water features and nature trails winding their way through ducks, deer, cabins and camp sites.

    Types

    • Four different options range from the most inexpensive tent/pop-up campsite, which accommodates two tents to the premium, which accommodates an RV and tent on a concrete parking pad.

    Facilities

    • All sites boast electricity, water, cable TV connections, charcoal grill, picnic table and, for a fee, high-speed Internet access. More expensive locales allow pets, offer better locations and have sewer hookups.

    Amenities

    • All allow access to comfort stations with private restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, stores and ice machines. Free transportation to the theme parks via boat or bus is also included.

    History

    • The campground opened on November 19, 1971 with only 232 campsites and two comfort stations. The now-discontinued Wilderness Line Steam train was introduced in 1973. Today, the area offers more than 1700 campsites and more than 400 wilderness cabins.
