Located in San Bernardino County, Upland, California, is small city that is situated at the bottom of the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains. The area currently features numerous small retailers and specialty shops, architecturally restored buildings, arts and cultural attractions, and various options for dining. Downtown is the main place for numerous events and things to do, such as attend the Second Avenue Market --- the area Farmer's Market, the Christmas Parade, the Lemon Festival and the Halloween Festival.
Upland is home to numerous recreational parks that provide a unique place to enjoy activities, programs, classes and its facilities. The recreational division in Upland sponsors recreational and sporting activities, such as swimming, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, football and classes for young and old, featuring exercise classes, cooking, singing, tap dancing, ballroom dancing and much more. The parks in Upland also feature playgrounds, picnic areas, open greenery, skate parks, volleyball areas, baseball areas, soccer fields, band shell for area concerts and flourishing gardens. Some parks of interest include the 13th Street Reservoir, Baldy View Dog Park, Cabrillo Park, Citrus Park, Fern Reservoir, Greenbelt, Magnolia, McCarthy, Memorial Park, San Antonio and Sierra Vista.
Commissioned by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Madonna of the Trail is part of a series of 12 monuments located throughout the United States. This Upland landmark stands at 18 feet and features a statue of a mother donning a traditional pioneer dress of a bonnet and long fitting garment, while holding her children. This serves as a dedication to women of the wilderness that has remained a symbol of pride in Upland since it was erected in 1929.
