Laughlin is located in the southwest corner of Nevada, on the Colorado River and mere miles away from both California and Arizona. According to the city's official website, Laughlin hosts more than four million visitors each year. This city offers activities for everyone to enjoy.
The Colorado River is the main waterway that flows through Laughlin, and it supplies recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors. Swimming, boating, water skiing and jet skiing are some popular activities. In addition, the Laughlin River Walk allows for a scenic view of the river and its wildlife.
Laughlin is located near two scenic and historical dams. According to the United States Bureau of Reclamation, the Davis Dam, located eight miles north of Laughlin, is a 200-foot-high structure on the Colorado River. The creation of the dam also led to the creation of Lake Mohave, a popular tourist spot.
Hoover Dam is also near Laughlin, only 75 miles north.
Laughlin is home to many events that focus on the Colorado River. "Rockets over the River" is Laughlin's annual Fourth of July fireworks display that takes place on the river banks.
According to the city's official website, the Colorado River Regatta, held each August, began in 2007 and features hundreds of homemade, non-motorized rafts floating down the river.
Car enthusiasts also enjoy the Laughlin area. On Sept. 27-29, 2009, the city will host the 18th-annual "Roddin' on the River Car Show." In November, the "Express Run Car Show" will be held. Both events feature cars, trucks, and hot rods along with contests, games, and activities.
Laughlin is also known for its resorts and casinos. Many of Laughlin's resorts feature spas, golf, and water activities, and are popular as a wedding destination. Laughlin is also home to several microbreweries and restaurants.
